NORFOLK MAN DUE BACK IN COURT AFTER RAPE CONVICTION

A woman allegedly kidnapped and raped by the owner of a seaside cafe has told how he threatened to kill her and her 10-year-old brother.

The woman — who cannot be identified for legal reasons — said she was thrown into a truck by Andrew Hubbard.

Norwich Crown Court heard the 34-year-old, who previously owned Lily Mai's, formerly Craft Burger, in Cromer's New Street, then told the woman they would go for a drive before taking her home and raping her.

Hubbard has gone on trial accused of a series of offences relating to the same woman between August 2022 and April 2023.

Giving evidence on Tuesday, the woman told the court Hubbard "was going to hurt me" before she was taken away, and that he pulled up to a graveyard and threatened to bury her and her brother.

She described Hubbard as screaming and shouting, asserting that he told her there were people on their way to kill her for him, but he was not going to get his hands dirty.

Hubbard also told her that the people were at the house "cleaning up any DNA of him so nothing could be traced".

The woman cried for mercy during the journey, which lasted about an hour.

She described Hubbard looking at her "with such anger" and feeling scared.

She recounted Hubbard saying he was going to kill her, and during the trip, she begged him not to kill her.

After returning to a property in north Norfolk, Hubbard entered the bedroom with his genitals exposed before raping her.

Previously, Hubbard had raped her between October and December 2022, and filmed her having sex without her consent.

Hubbard, of Hannah Close, Sheringham, denies all charges.

The trial continues.

Hubbard will appear at Norwich Crown Court for sentencing on December 15 after he was last month found guilty of one count of rape and another offence of controlling and coercive behaviour.

But he warned Hubbard "the outcome is almost inevitable" and he should "prepare yourself for custody".

The trial heard Hubbard came into the bedroom of a property in Cromer with his genitals exposed before raping the victim, who cannot be identified for legal reasons.

Jurors were told by the prosecution the woman "knew he wanted her to perform oral sex on him" and only did so as she was "so scared at that time".

Earlier in the trial, which started last month, the jury were directed to find Hubbard not guilty of another offence of escape from lawful custody.
