EX-TORY MINISTER ANDREW GRIFFITHS FOUND TO HAVE RAPED WIFE
A former Conservative minister, Andrew Griffiths, has been found by a family court judge to have raped and physically abused his wife, Kate Griffiths, MP for Burton-upon-Trent.The judge concluded that Mr Griffiths, 51, pressurized his wife into engaging in sexual activities, with allegations of coercive and controlling behavior.
The findings of fact include that Ms Griffiths proved that Mr Griffiths raped her during sexual intercourse, with incidents beginning while she was asleep, as confirmed by her own accounts and responses.
Ms Griffiths also reported physical abuse, including an attempt to strangle her during an argument, as well as pushing her when heavily pregnant.
Although Mr Griffiths denied the allegations, the judge preferred Ms Griffiths's account, describing his behavior as abusive.
The case had an emotional and financial toll on the family.
Mr Griffiths, who was previously MP for Burton and served as minister for small business, resigned from Parliament in July 2018 over allegations of sending lewd messages to women constituents.
Despite denying the allegations, a family court found enough evidence to support the claims against him.
He expressed disappointment that the family court proceedings were made public and stated that his goal was to protect his child from publicity and repair the damage caused by the case's publication.
