2008: MAN JAILED FOR YARMOUTH RAPE
A 41-year-old man has today been given an indeterminate sentence at Norwich Crown Court after raping an elderly woman at her home in Great Yarmouth.Andrew Gibb, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty at Norwich Crown Court in April to the attack on an 87 year old woman in the town which happened on Easter Monday.
The sentence means Gibb will not be eligible for parole for at least four-and-a-half years.
Senior Investigating Officer, Det Insp Stuart Armes, said: “Gibb subjected the victim to a terrifying ordeal.
The team worked extremely hard to catch this person and we'd like to repeat our previous message of thanks to the public for their help in assisting with our investigation.
I’d also like to take this opportunity to remind people that these types of offences where an elderly person is attacked in their home are extremely rare.” A team of more than 20 detectives from Yarmouth CID and Norfolk Constabulary's Major Investigation Team (MIT) were involved in the case.
