SHOCKING CRIME: ANDREW DURRANT FROM COSHESTON AND PEMBROKE DOCK CAUGHT WITH CHILD ABUSE IMAGES AND PAEDOPHILE HANDBOOK

In a series of disturbing incidents spanning several months, Andrew Durrant, a man residing in Cosheston and Pembroke Dock, was found to be deeply involved in the possession and distribution of child abuse material, as well as in the possession of a highly disturbing paedophile manual. His criminal activities came to light through police investigations that uncovered a horrifying collection of images and literature that revealed a long-standing and troubling interest in child exploitation.

In June 2018, police executed a search warrant at Durrant’s home in Pembroke Dock. During the search, authorities seized multiple pieces of computer equipment and storage devices. An extensive review of the digital contents revealed a staggering total of 33,061 images and videos depicting children, some as young as two or three years old. Among these were 335 images classified in the most severe category of obscenity, highlighting the extreme nature of the material Durrant possessed. The investigation also uncovered a paedophile handbook, which contained chapters with titles such as ‘Sex with kids’ and ‘Penetration training,’ indicating a disturbing premeditation and detailed knowledge of child sexual abuse.

Following these discoveries, Durrant was charged and appeared before Swansea Crown Court. On June 25, he pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including three counts of making indecent images of a child, possession of prohibited images, and possession of extreme pornographic material. The court heard that Durrant, aged 63, had been actively involved in viewing and collecting such material for a significant period. His actions were described as persistent and indicative of a long-standing paedophile inclination and interest.

Mrs Justice May, presiding over the case, sentenced Durrant to 18 months in prison. She emphasized the gravity of his offenses, noting the large volume of images, some depicting children as young as two, and the disturbing content of the paedophile handbook. The judge stated that only immediate imprisonment could serve as an appropriate punishment, given the scale and nature of his crimes. The court also considered arguments from Durrant’s legal team, who requested that his sentence be suspended due to his age, previous good character, and the time he had already served. However, Mrs Justice May firmly rejected this, asserting that the severity of the offenses warranted a custodial sentence.

In addition to the images, police found that Durrant possessed a guidebook explicitly aimed at paedophiles, with chapters titled ‘Sex with kids’ and ‘Penetration training,’ which further demonstrated his premeditated intent and detailed knowledge of child exploitation. The discovery of this manual was considered particularly alarming, as it indicated a deliberate effort to educate himself on how to meet and groom children for sexual abuse.

Earlier in the year, in April 2018, Durrant had already been convicted of possessing over 31,000 indecent images of children. During that hearing at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court, he admitted to downloading and possessing images ranging from Category A, which includes the most serious abuse material, to Category C, which covers less severe but still illegal content. The police investigation revealed that some of the children depicted in the images were as young as two years old. Durrant also admitted to possessing an extreme pornographic image involving acts with an animal, further illustrating the disturbing nature of his collection.

Throughout these proceedings, Durrant’s legal representatives argued that his sentence should be suspended, citing his age and previous good character. Nonetheless, the courts maintained that his crimes were of such severity that only immediate imprisonment could adequately reflect the seriousness of his actions. Durrant’s next court appearance is scheduled for May 25 at Swansea Crown Court, where he will face further legal proceedings. Until then, he remains on unconditional bail, awaiting the continuation of his case.
