54-YEAR-OLD LUDLOW MAN JAILED FOR VIOLENT ASSAULT OVER SUSPECTED CHEATING
Andrew Broome, aged 54, has been sentenced to jail after he violently assaulted his partner, who has chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.The assault was triggered by his suspicion that she was unfaithful to him.
The incident occurred at her home in Ludlow, with police called to the scene on September 24 last year.
When officers arrived, Broome was with his girlfriend, and it was agreed they would leave the property while Broome and his girlfriend awaited an ambulance for him.
However, Broome started acting strangely, took some of his partner's medication, and attempted to break into nearby houses.
The prosecutor, Kevin Jones, stated that Broome had 'the devil in his eyes' and was behaving incoherently, accusing her of cheating on him.
The court heard how Broome punched his girlfriend 'like a boxer' and strangled her while stuffing a blanket into her mouth, in an hour-long rage fueled by his paranoia and suspicion of infidelity.
The assault was severe, and the case was heard at Shrewsbury Crown Court, resulting in Broome's incarceration.
