MAN WITH GROTESQUE CHILD ABUSE FILES SENTENCED
2023 - A man from Burntisland who admitted to distributing child exploitation files has been handed a sentence.
Andrew Bonnar, 23 years old, pleaded guilty to the possession and creation of disturbing imagery spanning from March 19, 2020, to September 15, 2021, during a court hearing at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court.
He also confessed to distributing or displaying depraved photographs or pseudo-photographs from his address on Dick Crescent from June 25 to August 15, 2021.
At the sentencing hearing, prosecutor Alistair McDermid disclosed some of the explicit filenames found on the recovered files, including a compilation exceeding an hour showing children being abused, along with images of children harming each other and being assaulted by adults.
Defense solicitor David Cranston commented that Bonnar appeared as a typical young man, but was dealing with personal issues.
Sheriff Robert More imposed a sentence of two years' supervision, placed Bunmar on the Sex Offenders Register for the same period, and mandated him to undertake 240 hours of unpaid work in the next year.
He was also ordered to participate in the 'Moving Forward: Making Changes' program designed for rehabilitation.
The sentence was given as an alternative to jail time.
