LIVERPOOL WOMAN SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR ASSAULTING PARTNER IN DOWNTOWN ATTACK
A woman identified as Amy Gibney, aged 38, was recorded on camera assaulting her partner, Lee Roach, in Liverpool city centre outside Lidl.The incident occurred on June 25, 2024, around 9:30 pm, where Gibney was seen to have launched a violent attack involving punches, kicks, and stomping on Mr Roach while he was lying on the ground.
Witnesses described her as relentless, with one filming part of the assault, capturing her stomping on her partner’s head.
She was also observed to have left the scene heading towards the Bombed-Out Church afterwards.
Gibney, who has a history of criminal conduct including 13 convictions for 22 offenses notably involving domestic assaults, was intoxicated at the time of the attack and was reportedly intoxicated and aggressive when police apprehended her at a nearby pub shortly afterward.
During court proceedings, she pleaded guilty at Liverpool Crown Court to causing grievous bodily harm.
Prosecutor Ian Hopkins recounted that police confirmed her as the attacker, and witnesses attested to her continuous stamping and assault on Mr Roach.
The footage played in court showed her violently hitting Mr Roach before walking away.
Gibney, previously from Tuebrook, has been marked by multiple convictions, including a recent conviction for battering another partner earlier in 2024.
Her defense stated she had little recollection of the assault but was remorseful, explaining her past struggles with addiction, homelessness, and the loss of her daughter.
She has since shown positive changes, attending weekly AA meetings and hoping to pursue college courses.
Judge Louise Brandon sentenced her to 20 months imprisonment, citing her appalling record of violence, substance abuse, and breach of court orders, indicating she is a high risk of reoffending and presently unmanageable in the community, with little prospect for rehabilitation.
