AMY BECK FROM SANDHAVEN SENTENCED TO SEVEN YEARS FOR CHILD'S DEATH AND DRUG INVOLVEMENT IN EDINBURGH

Amy Beck, a 32-year-old woman originally from Fraserburgh, has been handed down a seven-year prison sentence by the High Court in Edinburgh for her role in the tragic death of her three-month-old son, Olly-James Sievewright. The court proceedings revealed disturbing details about her involvement in exposing her infant to dangerous illicit substances within her residence in Sandhaven.

According to the court, Olly-James succumbed in December 2019 after ingesting drugs that likely compromised his ability to cope with the subsequent complications of peritonitis, an inflammation of the tissue lining the abdominal cavity. The judge, Fiona Tait, described the case as both 'unusual and difficult,' emphasizing that the circumstances left no alternative but to impose a custodial sentence. She underscored the gravity of Beck’s actions, which directly contributed to her child's death.

Further evidence presented during the trial indicated that Beck was actively involved in the distribution of mephedrone, a Class B drug also known as M-Cat, over a period of nearly three years. The court found her guilty not only of drug trafficking but also of exposing children to these harmful substances. The investigation uncovered that her previous home in Sandhaven was heavily contaminated with drugs, creating an environment of significant danger and neglect.

Throughout the trial, it was made clear that Beck’s conduct represented a severe breach of trust and care, especially considering her role as a mother. Her actions, which included involvement in the supply of dangerous drugs and exposing her young child and others to these substances, were deemed to have directly led to Olly-James’s death. The judge highlighted the seriousness of her misconduct, which warranted a substantial custodial sentence to reflect the gravity of her offenses and the harm caused.
