ALISTAIR BURNETT FROM SANDHAVEN NEAR FRASERBURGH CONVICTED OF HORRIFIC CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN LIVINGSTON
Alistair Burnett, a resident of Sandhaven near Fraserburgh, has been found guilty of a series of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of a young child over a span of thirteen years.The court proceedings revealed that Burnett engaged in repeated acts of sexual violence, including rape and the exposure of the victim to pornographic materials.
The victim, whose age ranged from four to twelve years old at different times, endured a prolonged period of trauma and suffering due to Burnett’s actions.
In addition to the sexual abuse, Burnett was convicted of possessing indecent images of children, further highlighting the disturbing nature of his criminal behavior.
The case was brought before the High Court in Livingston, where the sentencing was conducted via video link.
During the hearing, Judge Jane Farquharson expressed serious concerns regarding Burnett’s potential threat to the community.
She noted that a risk assessment indicated a significant danger posed by Burnett until his psychological and behavioral needs are properly addressed.
The judge emphasized the gravity of the crimes committed, underscoring the long-lasting impact on the victim and the community.
She ordered an extensive risk assessment under Scottish law to better understand Burnett’s potential for future harm before determining an appropriate sentence.
As a result, the sentencing was deferred until February 24 of the following year, allowing time for further evaluations.
The court’s decision reflects the severity of the abuse, which has caused trauma for the victim over more than a decade.
Burnett faces the possibility of a lengthy prison sentence, with the potential for lifelong restrictions to prevent any further harm.
