AMARPREET DEO FROM ROWLEY REGIS SENTENCED FOR SCHOOLGIRL SEXUAL ATTACKS IN WOLVERHAMPTON

In September 2016, a man from Rowley Regis named Amarpreet Deo was sentenced to nearly five years in prison after being convicted of sexually assaulting two young girls. The incidents, which took place in Wolverhampton, have shocked the local community and highlighted the serious nature of the offences committed by Deo.

Deo, aged 40 and residing on York Road in Rowley Regis, was found guilty by a jury after denying two separate charges of sexual assault. The first assault involved a schoolgirl whom Deo attacked after reportedly watching pornography that had aroused him. The court heard that Deo took a chance and committed the assault, which involved some degree of force. The second victim was also a girl under the age of 13, whom Deo deliberately isolated to carry out his attack.

Judge Nicholas Cartwright, presiding over the case at Wolverhampton Crown Court, described the offences as extremely serious. He emphasized that the use of force in the first incident and the calculated isolation of the second victim underscored the gravity of Deo’s actions. The judge sentenced Deo to four years and nine months in prison, reflecting the severity of the crimes.

In addition to the custodial sentence, Judge Cartwright ordered Deo to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life. He also imposed an indeterminate Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which restricts Deo’s future contact with his victims and limits his movements to prevent further harm.

During the proceedings, Deo’s defense lawyer, Andrew McKiernan, highlighted that Deo had no prior sexual offences and attributed his behavior to a long-standing alcohol problem. McKiernan described the incidents as isolated and acknowledged that Deo, who is married, recognized that his actions were “unpleasant” episodes in his life.

Prosecutor Bernard Linnemann pointed out that Deo’s consumption of alcohol and his viewing of pornography prior to the first attack were aggravating factors in the case. The court was told that these elements contributed to Deo’s decision to commit the assault, further emphasizing the seriousness of his misconduct.
