ABERDEEN OFFENDER SENTENCED FOR BREAD KNIFE ASSAULT AND THEFT
A repeat offender from Aberdeen, Alexander Murison, has been sentenced again after admitting to stabbing his brother-in-law with a bread knife.Murison, a 44-year-old man with almost 28 years spent in custody over his lifetime, appeared in court for a violent incident that occurred at his relative's home in Bucksburn.
The court heard that Murison arrived uninvited at the house around 4:30 am on August 24, challenged the resident about his presence, and then a dispute ensued.
During the altercation, Murison was first struck by the victim, Mr.
Bowyer, but then retaliated by grabbing a bread knife from the kitchen and stabbed Mr.
Bowyer in his lower back, resulting in a small puncture wound.
Mr.
Bowyer's children heard cries for help and called an ambulance.
The victim was transported to hospital, where he was treated for a small bleed in his side muscles.
Prior to this incident, Murison had stolen a mountain bike worth around £400 from Neo House on Riverside Drive on August 16.
He forced his way into the building, helped himself to a can of Coke, and then took the bike from the bike rack before leaving the premises.
Murison pleaded guilty to theft and assault with a knife.
His defense argued that, having spent most of his life in custody and suffering from drug misuse, he generally refrains from offending when incarcerated and suggested that a community disposal might be more appropriate.
However, Sheriff Lesley Johnston sentenced him to 22 months imprisonment, citing his long criminal record, persistent dishonesty, and the seriousness of the assault, which could have caused more severe harm.
The sheriff emphasized the risk Murison poses to the public and acknowledged that the victim made a full recovery owing to swift medical action.
Murison has a prior conviction in 2022 when he was jailed for robbing three taxi drivers, but was caught after a cabbie locked the doors and took him to the police station.
