DERBY MAN HANDED SUSPENDED SENTENCE FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE AND THREATS
A domestic abuser from Derby has been sentenced for demeaning his partner with cruel remarks such as calling her 'ugly' and 'a tramp' before physically assaulting her.
Derby Crown Court heard that Alexander Hodgson, aged 24, also threatened to smash windows of a friend's house when the victim refused to give him money for cannabis.
Hodgson's abusive behavior included pushing the woman forcefully, slapping her and telling her she deserved the slap, before apologizing via text.
The court was informed that Hodgson's relationship with the victim lasted about three years, starting when they were both around 19, with episodes of demeaning conduct and violence.
Despite the offenses occurring when he was approximately 19 to 22, Hodgson has been incident-free for nearly three years since the relationship ended.
He was given an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for 15 months, and ordered to attend a 31-day program, complete 20 rehabilitation sessions, and undertake 100 hours of unpaid work.
The judge noted that Hodgson's prior court appearances and the influence of his sister helped him refrain from further trouble.
