ALEX PROSSER SENTENCED IN SWANSEA FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES

A man named Alex Prosser was convicted and sentenced for historic and recent serious sexual offenses against children in Swansea.

According to court reports, Prosser, 34, groomed an 11-year-old girl via Snapchat, ultimately raping her in his flat. Police investigations revealed over 1,200 indecent images and videos found on his phone, depicting babies and children subjected to sexual abuse. A report characterized him as the "epitome of a predator paedophile." His defense acknowledged his shame, with his barrister stating, "He has a deep sense of shame – as he should."

The case outlined that Prosser initially made contact with another child on Snapchat. From there, he communicated with the 11-year-old girl, despite her clearly stating her age. Carina Hughes, prosecuting, explained that the girl informed him she was underage, to which he replied that he was 16.

Prosser engaged in grooming behaviors, including persistent requests for nude images and sending explicit photos and videos of himself. He then arranged for the girl to visit his flat, where she was cuddled, touched, and ultimately subjected to oral sex.

The abuse was uncovered when the girl’s mother discovered the Snapchat exchanges, confronted Prosser, and reported the matter to police. When officers arrived at the Port Talbot flat, Prosser was not there, but they found blood outside and forced entry inside. Inside, they found a trail of blood and a bloody knife. Prosser was later found injured on the nearby slipway near the RNLI station on Aberavon seafront.

His mobile phone was seized and analyzed, revealing 1,249 indecent images and videos, including 700 categorized as Category A—depicting the most severe forms of sexual abuse—and some of the children appearing to be around 18 months old.

Prosser gave a mostly "no comment" interview but told officers he had been "waiting to die for the last 10 years" and described his life as difficult, adding, "I’ve had enough."

In a victim impact statement read in court, the girl’s mother described her ongoing distress, saying she struggled with sleep and nightmare-ridden nights since the incident. She also shared that her daughter rarely talks about her experience but when she does, she blames herself and apologizes, describing the entire ordeal as "every mother’s worst nightmare."

Prosser, from Trinity Court, Port Talbot, had previously pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including the rape of a child under 13, attempting to cause or incite sexual acts with a child, possessing indecent images of various categories, and possessing extreme pornography. He had no prior convictions.

Representing Prosser, Eugene Hickey noted that the defendant was lonely, isolated, and suffering from depression and low self-esteem, which led to self-harm. He emphasized that the guilty pleas avoided the need for a trial and reinforced that Prosser experienced profound shame.

Judge Catherine Richards sentenced Prosser to a 13-year extended prison term, consisting of 10 years in custody and a three-year extended license. She explained he must serve at least two-thirds of the custodial period before applying for release, with parole decisions remaining in the hands of the Parole Board. Additionally, Prosser was subjected to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and will remain a registered sex offender for life.
