COLOMBIAN EX-POLICEMAN JAILED FOR 'CALLOUS' WIFE MURDER IN HEMEL HEMPSTEAD
Alberto Rodrigo Giraldo-Tascon, described by the court as 'callous and cold-hearted,' received a life sentence for the heinous murder of his wife, Luz Margory Isaza Villegas.The prosecution revealed that Giraldo-Tascon, a former police officer from Colombia, strangled his wife at their home on Ritcroft Street in Hemel Hempstead on 13 January.
Following the act, he forcibly placed her body into a suitcase and ignited it.
Her remains were found four days later in a shallow grave on Northchurch Common near Berkhamsted.
During the trial at St Albans Crown Court, it was revealed that Giraldo-Tascon took the couple’s two-month-old foster child with him when he disposed of her body.
The court described his conduct as 'callous and cold-hearted,' sentencing him to a minimum of 19 years in prison.
Evidence showed his actions were driven by jealousy, stemming from concerns that his wife was unfaithful.
One of their children recounted that her father admitted to killing her mother when he collected her from the airport.
Giraldo-Tascon denied the murder charge, claiming that his wife lunged at him with a knife before collapsing.
The judge emphasized the brutality of the crime, describing the killer’s actions as 'callous, cold-hearted, and evil,' indicating that they involved extensive planning.
After the verdict, their son paid tribute to Luz Margory, calling her a loving and kind mother who brought warmth to everyone with her infectious laughter.
The conviction was based on evidence of blunt force trauma to the victim's face and neck, with signs of strangulation.
This case highlights a tragic relationship marked by obsession and suspicion, culminating in a shocking and violent crime that stunned the local community.
