ALBERT REDMAN BIRKDALE HORROR: PENSIONER CAUGHT WITH NEARLY 100 ANIMAL ABUSE VIDEOS IN LIVERPOOL

In April 2021, authorities uncovered a disturbing case involving Albert Redman, a 70-year-old resident of Birkdale, who was found in possession of an alarming collection of nearly 100 videos depicting extreme acts of animal abuse. The footage, which showed adults engaging in sexual acts with dogs and horses, was discovered during a police raid on his home on Stanley Avenue in Birkdale.

Redman, a married man and father of two, claimed he was unaware that possessing such material was illegal. He explained that he had downloaded these files over a period of almost a year, believing them to be legal content. Despite his assertions, the court was not convinced by his claims of ignorance.

During the hearing at Liverpool Crown Court, Judge Gary Woodhall addressed the seriousness of the case. He stated, “You claimed never to be aroused by these images. I just don’t accept that, it’s obviously not true. You clearly obtained some gratification, that’s why you kept going back for more.”

Details of the police investigation revealed that officers executed a search warrant at Redman’s residence on April 22 of the previous year. During the raid, electronic devices, including a Western Digital hard drive, were seized. Analysis of the digital storage showed that the hard drive contained 93 extreme pornographic images, with 68 of these being unique or non-duplicate images that remained accessible for viewing. Additionally, 20 files had been deleted, but all depicted acts of bestiality.

Prosecutor Andrew McInnes explained that the files were downloaded between March 25, 2019, and March 17, 2020, with the majority being videos of the abusive acts. The investigation also revealed that it was not possible to determine whether these images had been shared or distributed, as peer-to-peer file sharing software was present on the system.

When questioned by police, Redman admitted to viewing the images but insisted he did not realize that possessing such material was illegal. He claimed he used a standard search system, which he believed was lawful, and stated that if he had known the content was illegal, he would have deleted it. The court was told that the videos were of considerable length and had been downloaded over nearly a year.

Redman’s criminal record includes a previous conviction from 2013 for an unrelated matter. The court heard that the images involved acts of bestiality with adult animals, and Redman maintained he was searching for “normal porn” when he inadvertently came across the illegal content.

In sentencing, Judge Woodhall imposed a 12-month community order along with a 20-day Rehabilitation Activity Requirement. Redman was also fined £1,500 and ordered to pay £425 towards court costs. The judge gave him 28 days to settle the fine, warning that failure to do so would result in a 28-day prison sentence in default. Furthermore, the court ordered the forfeiture and destruction of all electronic devices involved in the case.

Importantly, Redman is not required to register as a sex offender because the minimum sentence for this offence, which triggers notification requirements, is a two-year prison term.
