ALBERT BRENNER SENTENCED IN KEITH FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF TWO GIRLS
In August 2009, a disturbing case unfolded in Moray involving Albert Bremner, a man from Keith who was convicted of heinous crimes against two young girls.Bremner, aged 46 at the time, was found guilty of a series of sexual offenses that spanned over three years, from April 2004 to November 2007.
During a police search of his former residence in Keith, authorities discovered a disturbing collection of photographs depicting the naked victims.
These images, which showed the two girls in vulnerable and compromising positions, served as crucial evidence in the case.
The investigation revealed that Bremner had manipulated the children by offering them cigarettes and money, luring them into situations where he could carry out his abuse.
According to court records, Bremner persuaded the girls to pose for indecent photographs, taking advantage of their innocence during a prolonged period of exploitation.
The abuse was not limited to photographs; Bremner also subjected the girls to physical assaults.
One of the victims, who was only 12 years old at the time, was attacked with the apparent intent to rape her.
However, the assault was interrupted when she began crying and threatened to inform her mother, causing Bremner to cease his attack.
Similarly, a second girl, aged 15, was also assaulted by Bremner.
He pushed her onto a bed in his home and attempted to carry out a sexual act.
The girl pleaded with him to stop, and just as the situation escalated, a doorbell rang, prompting Bremner to leave the scene abruptly.
These incidents highlighted a pattern of predatory behavior and a blatant disregard for the victims' well-being.
Following his arrest, Bremner admitted to multiple charges, including assault with intent to rape both girls, indecency offenses, and the production of indecent images.
He later moved to Darwen in Lancashire, but his crimes in Keith remained the focus of the legal proceedings.
At the High Court in Edinburgh, Judge Lord Menzies addressed the severity of Bremner’s actions.
He stated, “The offences which you have pled guilty to are not only serious, but must have caused considerable distress to the victims.” The judge emphasized the lasting impact such crimes could have on the victims, though the full extent of their suffering could only be speculated upon.
Considering the evidence and Bremner’s criminal history, Lord Menzies determined that the case met the criteria for an indefinite sentence under the Order for Lifelong Restriction, a measure reserved for the most serious violent and sexual offenders.
The judge warned Bremner that this could effectively mean life imprisonment, with the possibility of release only if the Parole Board approved it.
Ultimately, Bremner was sentenced to serve a minimum of five years in prison before he could apply for parole, a decision that underscores the gravity of his crimes and the justice system’s response to such offenses.
