EX-SCOTLAND CAPTAIN COLLIN HENDRY SENTENCED FOR HARASSMENT
Former Scotland captain Colin Hendry has been handed a one-year restraining order after he admitted harassing his ex-partner and leaving her "unable to leave the house without fearing an unannounced visit".
The former Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City defender, who led the national side at the 1998 World Cup, pleaded guilty to harassment without violence at Preston Magistrates Court. The court was told that Hendry had sent his ex numerous messages over a six-month period and appeared at her home with unwanted gifts on several instances.
Hendry, of Land Street in Keith, Moray, was also ordered to complete 60 hours of unpaid work over a year and attend a behaviour change course. After sentencing, senior crown prosecutor Natasha Clark stated Hendry harassed his ex-partner between 29 May and 4 July 2024, after the end of their relationship.
She said Hendry ignored her wishes, breached boundaries, and his actions were "intimidating and persistent, causing the victim immense distress." She added that he initially denied the harassment but later pleaded guilty after police and prosecutors collaborated to prove his behaviour.
CPS detailed that Hendry used multiple email accounts and called her using No Caller ID when blocked, and he contacted her via social media on LinkedIn.
The victim reported feeling depressed and anxious because of his conduct, which led to police warnings that Hendry continued to breach.
