ALASTAIR MAJURY FROM BANGOR AND FIFE SENTENCED FOR CHILD INDECENCY IMAGES IN NORTHERN IRELAND

In April 2016, a pharmacist from Dunfermline was sentenced to a community payback order after being found guilty of possessing and viewing indecent images of children. The case came to light following a police raid on his residence, which uncovered a disturbing collection of illicit material stored on his computers.

Alastair Majury, aged 32, who now resides at Ballyholme View, Seacliffe Road, Bangor, Northern Ireland, admitted to the authorities that between September 21, 2014, and August 6, 2015, he was in possession of numerous indecent photographs of children. The investigation revealed that these images were stored on devices at his former address at 6 Kintail Place, Dunfermline, as well as other locations. Majury also confessed to taking or allowing the taking of indecent photographs of children at the same address, raising serious concerns about his conduct.

The police executed a search warrant at Majury’s home early in the morning, around 7:15 am on August 11. During the subsequent interview, he admitted to viewing indecent images of children both at his current residence and previously at Bittern Court, Dunfermline. He explained that his initial interest in viewing such images stemmed from curiosity and a desire to understand what the fuss was about, a justification that authorities and the court found deeply troubling.

Investigators examined his computer devices and discovered a significant collection of illicit material, including over 650 still images and more than 390 video files depicting children as young as two years old. The disturbing content highlighted the severity of his actions and the extent of his illegal activities.

When Majury appeared in court for sentencing, his solicitor, Sarah Meehan, emphasized that he was a first-time offender and had since moved back to Northern Ireland to live with his family. She stated that he had shown genuine remorse for his actions and had fully confessed during police interviews. Ms. Meehan described Majury as coming from a good family background and noted that his behavior was uncharacteristic.

She also revealed that Majury had graduated from Aberdeen University in 2010 but had since lost his job as a pharmacist due to the allegations. The solicitor expressed doubt about his ability to return to his previous profession, given the circumstances. Additionally, Ms. Meehan mentioned that his marriage had broken down, with no prospects for reconciliation.

In sentencing, Sheriff Craig McSherry ordered a community payback order with two years of supervision and mandated that Majury be placed on the sex offenders register, reflecting the gravity of his offenses and the need for ongoing monitoring.
