LIVERPOOL MAN WITH SCHIZOPHRENIA SENTENCED TO INDEFINITE DETENTION FOR PARENTAL HOMICIDE
A man with paranoid schizophrenia who stabbed his parents to death has been ordered to be detained indefinitely in a psychiatric hospital.Alan Scott, aged 36, from Woolton, admitted manslaughter on grounds of diminished responsibility during an earlier hearing.
Stella Scott, aged 63, and her 61-year-old husband, also named Alan, were discovered in a pool of blood at their home in Allerton, Liverpool, in April 2008.
The judge, Henry Globe, imposed an indefinite detention order at Liverpool Crown Court.
Scott visited his parents' residence on Redington Road in March 2008 and inflicted 37 stab wounds on his mother and 13 on his father.
The following day, he tearfully confided in a friend that he had 'butchered' his parents in 'cold-blooded murder'.
This led to the police discovering the bodies.
The court detailed that Scott had suffered from psychotic mental illness for two decades and had been sectioned twice.
At the time of the attack, he was so delusional that he believed his parents were step-parents who had abused him during childhood.
Scott, who also admitted to wounding another patient with intent two weeks after his arrest, further pleaded guilty to causing approximately £50,000 worth of criminal damage at Ashworth Hospital during a rooftop protest.
The court's verdict was that he would remain in a psychiatric hospital for treatment and detention.
