ALAN ROBINSON CAUGHT IN ACCRINGTON VOYEURISM SCANDAL LEAVING JOBS AND WIFE BEHIND
In August 2022, a disturbing incident unfolded in Accrington involving Alan Robinson, a man whose actions have caused significant distress and upheaval in his personal life.The case came to light when a woman, who was in her home, was shocked to discover she was being watched by Robinson, who was lurking in her back garden.
The woman had been in the shower at the time, and her routine was abruptly interrupted by the unsettling realization that her privacy had been invaded.
According to court proceedings held at Blackburn magistrates, Robinson, aged 64 and residing on Stanley Street in Accrington, attempted to justify his presence in the garden by claiming he was searching for his cat.
However, his explanation did little to mitigate the seriousness of his actions.
Robinson pleaded guilty to charges of voyeurism and, on a separate occasion, to indecently exposing himself to another individual.
The court heard that Robinson’s behavior had severe repercussions on his personal life.
It was reported that he had lost his employment and his marriage as a direct result of his misconduct, highlighting the profound impact of his actions beyond the courtroom.
Robinson was sentenced to a 20-week prison term, which was suspended for two years, meaning he would not serve time unless he committed further offenses within that period.
Additionally, he was ordered to complete a 30-day Rehabilitation Activity Requirement, aimed at addressing his behavior.
To ensure ongoing monitoring, Robinson was placed on the Sex Offender Register for a period of seven years.
The court also mandated him to pay costs amounting to £150 and a victim surcharge of £128.
Prosecutor Waqas Yakub detailed the incident involving the victim, who was holding her baby when she became aware of Robinson’s presence.
She noticed him halting halfway up the stairs behind her, which prompted her to turn around and investigate.
It was then that she saw Robinson with his trousers and underwear around his ankles, and she observed his hands engaged in some activity.
The victim had left her bathroom window open to allow steam to escape while she was showering.
Upon exiting the bathroom, she saw Robinson in her garden, staring at the window.

Yakub explained that the victim also saw Robinson with his hands down the front of his joggers.
When she confronted him and asked what he was doing, Robinson responded that he was looking for his cat, a claim that was met with disbelief given the circumstances.
This incident underscores the invasive nature of Robinson’s actions and the distress caused to the victim, as well as the broader implications for community safety in Accrington.
