ALAN GRIMES FROM BLACON SENTENCED TO 18 YEARS FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN CHESTER

In a case that has shocked the community of Chester, Alan Robert Grimes, a man with a troubling history and known residence in Blacon, was handed a lengthy prison sentence after being found guilty of multiple serious sexual offences involving children. The offences, which spanned over an 11-month period, came to light through a combination of police investigations and social services inquiries, revealing a disturbing pattern of abuse.

Grimes, aged 46 and a self-described loner, had a prior conviction dating back to 1984 for indecent assault on a young boy. His criminal record and social isolation appeared to have contributed to his predatory behavior. The case was brought before Chester Crown Court, where Grimes pleaded guilty to a series of charges, including two counts of rape, six counts of sexual assault, and two counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

The investigation was triggered after authorities discovered that Grimes had exchanged text messages with a member of a paedophile ring based in South Yorkshire. Although the messages were not explicitly sexual, they referenced young boys, raising suspicions that led to further scrutiny. Police, working alongside social services, uncovered evidence that Grimes had repeatedly taken children into public toilet cubicles in Chester, where he engaged in sexual touching over their clothing and performed sexual acts on at least one victim.

Throughout the court proceedings, Grimes sat with his head bowed, showing remorse as he admitted to his crimes. His arrest on December 19 marked the beginning of a legal process that revealed the extent of his manipulative and predatory conduct. During sentencing, the judge noted the emotional trauma inflicted upon the victims and highlighted the fact that Grimes had been disowned by his own family due to his actions.

Judge Roger Dutton described Grimes as having groomed the children to satisfy his own sexual desires, emphasizing the severity of the breach of trust involved. The judge stated that Grimes posed a significant risk to children in the future and that his actions warranted a substantial custodial sentence. Grimes was sentenced to 18 years in prison, with the possibility of parole after serving ten years, contingent upon assessments of his safety to re-enter society. Additionally, he received a concurrent five-year sentence for the rape charges.

Legal representatives for Grimes, including Peter Moss, acknowledged his remorse and described him as a loner with learning difficulties who had not engaged in adult relationships. Moss explained that Grimes struggled to communicate outside his immediate family and was operating at a level below his age. The court was told that Grimes’s family had completely disowned him, adding to his sense of isolation and despair.
