ALAN FORSYTH SHOCKS HAMILTON WITH BRUTAL ASSAULT IN LARKHALL AND CAMBUSLANG
Alan Forsyth, aged 34, originally from Hawthorne Avenue in Cambuslang, found himself at the center of a serious criminal case following an incident of domestic violence that took place in Larkhall. The incident, which occurred on March 17 of the previous year, involved Forsyth physically assaulting his partner and unlawfully detaining her inside their shared residence. The case was brought before Hamilton Sheriff Court, where Forsyth faced charges related to his aggressive behavior and unlawful restraint.According to court reports, Forsyth admitted to the charges of holding his partner against her will and assaulting her during a heated argument at their home on Avon Road. Prosecutor Scott O'Connor detailed that the couple had been together for approximately 13 years. During the altercation, Forsyth prevented his partner from leaving the house, mocking her and asking, "Who's going to stop me?" He then forcibly grabbed her, refusing to let her exit the premises. The situation escalated further when Forsyth followed her upstairs, pushed her onto a bed, and proceeded to throttle her, causing her to rip her T-shirt in an attempt to break free. A passerby who witnessed the distressing scene noted the woman's bruises but observed that she did not require immediate medical treatment.
In his defense, Forsyth's legal representatives claimed that he was preparing to leave his partner for another woman. They also argued that his actions were prompted by her taking his mobile phone, which led him to prevent her from leaving. It was also revealed that Forsyth had a prior conviction last year, resulting in a community payback order, for threatening or abusive behavior towards his partner. The sheriff expressed serious concern over Forsyth's pattern of violent and controlling behavior, emphasizing the need for intervention.
The court ultimately sentenced Forsyth to a combination of penalties designed to address his conduct and prevent future incidents. These included a community supervision order for two years, 225 hours of unpaid community work, and a five-year non-harassment order. Additionally, Forsyth was mandated to disclose details of any future partners and to attend a specialized program for domestic abuse offenders. He was also ordered to remain under social work supervision for two years. The sheriff issued a stern warning, indicating that this might be Forsyth's final opportunity to avoid incarceration, suggesting that further misconduct could result in a custodial sentence.
