MAN WHO RAPED TEENAGE BOYS JAILED FOR TEN YEARS
Alan Bryson-Sword, aged 49 and previously residing in Eyemouth, Berwickshire, was found guilty of multiple sexual offenses involving two teenage boys.He engaged in repeated sexual misconduct with his first victim over a period from September 2013 to August 2017, committing assaults in Dundee and Berwickshire and subjecting the boy to rape.
The first victim was only 14 when the abuse started, during which Bryson-Sword also molested him and exposed himself.
In a separate incident in June 2023, he attacked a second boy, aged 17, at a residence in Berwickshire, forcing him to the ground and raping him.
The second victim had also been previously sexually assaulted in 2021, when Bryson-Sword touched his leg and genitals at a different address in Berwickshire.
During an earlier trial at the High Court in Edinburgh, Bryson-Sword denied the charges.
Prior to sentencing, Judge John Morris KC stated that the jury had convicted him of three charges of sexual misconduct involving two young males.
The judge emphasized that the two most serious charges involved particularly grave sexual abuse of the victims.
Defence solicitor advocate Ewen Roy told the High Court in Edinburgh: “He recognises a lengthy sentence is inevitable given the jury’s verdict and the serious nature of the charges.” Mr Roy said that Bryson-Sword had a good childhood and went on to have a “long, settled relationship” as an adult.
He said he also had a good employment record and participated in volunteer work.
The defence solicitor advocate said the offender planned to take any courses available to him while serving his sentence.
The judge told Bryson-Sword, who followed the proceedings via a TV link to prison, that he would be placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.
He also issued non-harassment orders banning the offender from contacting or attempting to contact victims.
