Al Auguiste, 22, began attacking the woman, aged in her 20s, in the dining area of the Travelodge, in Clifton Way, Cambridge, at about 2.30am on 24 November.
An argument had arisen about Auguiste speaking to other women and he assaulted the victim with a mobile phone charger, bent her finger back and repeatedly punched her, causing severe injuries. The victim called police, but Auguiste snatched the phone and hung up.
Officers arrived and noticed Auguiste and the victim walking outside the hotel. When officers saw the victim’s bruised face, the victim said she had been involved in a fight at a venue nearby, but when officers spoke to security at the venue, they contradicted the story.
CCTV at the hotel showed Auguiste assaulting the victim and, despite running off, he was arrested at about 5am hiding under a bus near the city’s railway station.
On Wednesday (12 February), at Peterborough Magistrates' Court acting as a Crown Court, Auguiste, of no fixed address, was jailed for two years and four months, having pleaded guilty to assault, obstruct a constable in the execution of their duty and inflict grievous bodily harm without intent.
