SUSPECT AJAZ BUTT AND SAJID BUTT SHOCK SWANSEA WITH HORRIFIC CHILD ABUSE REVELATIONS
In a deeply disturbing case that has rocked the Swansea community, a man who endured over 100 instances of sexual abuse during his childhood has bravely come forward to share his harrowing story. The survivor, Amer Hussain, revealed that his ordeal began at the tender age of six, when he was first assaulted by his uncle, Ajaz Butt, who had traveled from Pakistan to his family’s residence in Swansea.
Hussain recounted that the abuse did not stop there.
When he was nine years old, he was sent to a boarding school in Pakistan, where he was subjected to nightly assaults for a period of six months before returning to Wales.
The trauma persisted, and at the age of 12, during a family funeral in Bristol, he was again victimized—this time by Sajid Butt, a distant cousin of his mother.
Now aged 39, Hussain has spoken openly about the aftermath of his abuse, particularly the hostile reaction he faced from his community after reporting the crimes to the police.
Despite having the support of his immediate family, he described a community backlash that was both unexpected and painful.
Hussain explained, “Once I went to the police I had a backlash.
The community wanted us to try and sort this out between elders.
The sort of conversations I was having was people telling me that I should forgive them.” He further revealed that he received death threats from members of the community following his decision to involve law enforcement.
“I was getting death threats from people after I went to the police,” he said.
The survivor admitted that the community’s reaction was more difficult to cope with than the legal proceedings themselves, stating, “The reaction from people within the community to me coming forward has actually affected me more than going over what happened in the court case.” Hussain has chosen to waive his anonymity and speak publicly about his experiences in the hope of helping others who have suffered similar abuse.
“My story is one of the craziest things ever but if I can help just one person with everything I have gone through,” he said.
“Once you are abused, trust me, your life is in so much pain.
But if I can stop it happening to someone else just by being open and letting people be aware.” In legal proceedings, Ajaz Butt, aged 55, was sentenced to nine years in prison on October 12, 2018, after being convicted of six counts of indecent assault at Swansea Crown Court.
The court also left seven other charges, including rape and buggery, on file.
Meanwhile, Sajid Butt, aged 48, admitted to three counts of indecent assault, one count of buggery, and one count of attempted buggery on March 12 of this year.
He was subsequently sentenced to six years under a Mental Health Act hybrid order, which entails detention in a hospital for part of his sentence, reflecting the serious nature of his crimes and the mental health considerations involved.
