ADRIAN PEARCE FROM TELFORD SENTENCED TO 14 YEARS FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES AND IMAGE OFFENCES
In a case that has shocked the community of Telford, Adrian Pearce, a 70-year-old resident of Hopkins Heath, Shawbirch, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being convicted of serious child sex offences and possession of indecent images. The sentencing took place at Shrewsbury Crown Court, where the court heard harrowing details about the crimes committed nearly a decade ago.
According to court records, Pearce was found guilty of raping a girl under the age of 13 in 2011.
The trial, which concluded earlier this year, revealed the extent of the abuse and its devastating impact on the victim.
During the sentencing, the victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, delivered an emotional impact statement.
She described how Pearce’s actions led her to experience suicidal thoughts and engage in self-harm during her teenage years.
Now an adult, she continues to suffer from anxiety and depression, highlighting the long-lasting trauma inflicted by Pearce’s abuse.
Prosecutor Mr.
Tim Harrington emphasized the victim’s distress, stating, “She said she thought of reporting it to the police at the time, but felt she couldn’t.
When she finally did report the crime last year, it caused her immense anxiety.” The police investigation following her report uncovered disturbing evidence on Pearce’s computer.
Authorities discovered two Category A images, which are classified as the most serious type of indecent material, along with two images in Category C.
Pearce subsequently pleaded guilty in 2018 to two counts of making indecent images.
During the court proceedings, Pearce’s legal representative, Mr.
Darron Whitehead, explained that his client was absent from the hearing due to illness.
Whitehead stated, “Adrian Pearce has declined to attend today.
He understands that he will be sentenced even though he is not in court.
He understands that he will receive a lengthy sentence.
He takes the view that he is likely to die in prison.
He has been on the hospital wing for some time.” Judge Peter Barrie sentenced Pearce to a total of 14 years in prison for the offences.
The judge highlighted the betrayal of trust involved, noting that Pearce exploited the victim’s innocence and trust.
“The effect has been severe.
It is typical of the profound and lasting harm that comes from offending of this kind against young children,” the judge remarked.
Furthermore, Pearce is required to serve at least half of his sentence before being eligible for release, followed by an extended licence period of 12 months.
The court did not impose a Sexual Harm Prevention Order in this case.
The sentencing underscores the serious nature of Pearce’s crimes and the ongoing impact on the victim, as the community of Telford grapples with the repercussions of this disturbing case.
