A man who travelled from Ireland to London with the intent to sexually abuse a six-year-old girl has received a prison sentence.
Adrian O’Reilly, aged 49, was brought to police attention in January 2023 after engaging in online conversations with an officer pretending to be another user.
During these exchanges, the paedophile expressed his wish to meet and commit abuse against a young girl.
The undercover officer, playing along, suggested a meeting location at Stratford.
On March 29, O’Reilly flew to London and traveled to Stratford, where he was promptly arrested by law enforcement officers.
At the time of arrest, he was found in possession of Viagra and condoms.
On Thursday, March 14, O’Reilly, who resides in Dublin, was sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court to a term of six years and nine months in prison after he admitted to charges related to arranging or facilitating a child offence during an earlier hearing.
He was also issued an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and will be subject to lifelong notification requirements.
Detective Constable Ed Hickford, part of the team that captured O’Reilly, commented: “Our pursuit of those who engage in illegal sexual activity with children is relentless and we will use a range of tactics to identify and arrest those responsible.
“In this case, O’Reilly thought he was communicating with a person who was offering access to a young girl.
“His messages were vile and he endorsed these by getting on a plane and flying to London with the intention to carry out this abuse.
“However, he was greeted by my team who arrested him and compiled a wealth of evidence which left him with no choice but to plead guilty.”
