DOMESTIC ABUSER JAILED FOR COERCIVE CONTROL AND STRANGULATION
A woman has come forward to share the lasting physical and emotional scars inflicted by her former partner's domestic abuse. She recounted her experience with Adrian Jones, 46, who was sentenced after being found guilty of controlling and coercive behavior, as well as strangulation.
Jones was detained in October 2023 following an incident in Bedford, where police responded to a call and found him threatening his ex-partner.
During the confrontation, Jones physically restrained the woman by strangulation, which rendered her unconscious, caused severe injuries, and left her fearing for her life.
In interviews, she revealed a lengthy history of controlling conduct over several years, including threats and assaults involving knives.
She stated that the manipulative conduct intensified after their separation.
Jones, who was homeless at the time, was convicted of multiple charges, including controlling behavior, assault by strangulation, and violating a restraining order.
He was sentenced on September 10 by Luton Crown Court to four years in prison, with an additional five years on supervised release.
An indefinite restraining order was also issued against him.
In a personal statement, the woman described the trauma she endured, saying, “I am no longer the woman I was.
I bear the mental, physical, emotional, and financial scars of that abuse.” She emphasized the seriousness of the assault, stating she believed her life was at risk, and accused Jones of deliberate violence and lying in court.
Detective Sergeant Darren Armitage from the local domestic abuse team, Emerald, reaffirmed the force’s stance against domestic violence, stating, “There is no place for domestic abuse in society.
We are dedicated to delivering justice for victims.” He added that Jones’ inability to accept the end of the relationship and his disregard for the harm caused demonstrated his ongoing harmful intent.
