ADRIAN CHARLES LEE FROM LIVERPOOL SENTENCED FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE UNDER NEW LAW

A man from Liverpool, Adrian Charles Lee, aged 21, has become one of the first individuals to be convicted under the recently enacted domestic abuse legislation that came into effect at the end of the previous year. This new law specifically targets psychological and emotional abuse within intimate relationships, addressing forms of coercive control that do not necessarily involve physical violence.

Lee was sentenced to a six-month jail term after being found guilty of controlling or coercive behaviour towards his partner. The court heard that his actions included exerting significant influence over a 39-year-old woman from Kirkby, a suburb of Liverpool. Evidence presented during the trial revealed that Lee instructed her to block her ex-partner on her phone and Facebook, effectively limiting her social interactions and freedom to communicate. He also demanded that she avoid seeing her former partner altogether, demonstrating a clear pattern of controlling behaviour.

In addition to psychological manipulation, Lee admitted to physically assaulting the woman on three separate occasions. The assaults resulted in visible bruises and a cut to her eyebrow, which required medical attention. The court was told that Lee pushed her into a wall during one of these incidents.
