CHESTER MAN JAILED FOR STALKING, RAPE, AND SEXUAL ASSAULT
A 27-year-old man from Chester, identified as Adam Hughes of Sandringham Avenue, Great Broughton, was sentenced to eight years in prison after being found guilty of raping and sexually assaulting a woman he was stalking.Hughes admitted to stalking his victim between mid-August and November, which included bombarding her with social media messages and phone calls, as well as gaining access to her home.
He also threatened her and her neighbors, indicating that his stalking would cease if she had sex with him.
His offending escalated, with two instances where the victim woke up at her Chester residence to find him sexually assaulting her—one time she was raped, and another he performed a sex act on her.
The victim reported these offences, leading to Hughes' charges of stalking involving fear of violence, rape, and sexual assault.
He pled guilty to stalking and was convicted of rape and sexual assault at Chester Crown Court on May 2, 2019, following a three-day trial.
Hughes received a custodial sentence of eight years.
Authorities highlighted the bravery of the victim in coming forward and giving evidence, and they emphasized the ongoing support from specialist officers.
Police officials urged other victims to report such offences and reiterated their commitment to investigating all allegations seriously.
