ADAM HUBBARD FROM BELPER CAUGHT TRYING TO MEET 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL AT DERBYSHIRE RAILWAY STATION

In a serious case that highlights the dangers of online grooming, Adam Hubbard, a 38-year-old man from Belper, has admitted to attempting to meet a young girl at a railway station in Derbyshire with the intent of engaging in sexual activity. The incident unfolded over several days, during which Hubbard engaged in online conversations with what he believed was a 12-year-old girl. Unbeknownst to him, the individual he was communicating with was actually an undercover police officer posing as the young girl to catch predators seeking to exploit children.

On June 16 of this year, Hubbard arranged to meet the girl at Belper railway station, a well-known local transit hub. The plan was set, but law enforcement had already intervened. Hubbard’s actions came to light during a police operation aimed at combating online child exploitation. The police had been monitoring his online activity from June 13 to June 17, during which he attempted to initiate sexual communication and even tried to persuade the girl to watch a sexual act. These attempts were part of a pattern of grooming behavior that culminated in the planned meeting.

Hubbard appeared via video link from HMP Nottingham at Derby Crown Court on Monday morning, July 17. He pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including attempting to engage in sexual communication with a minor, attempting to cause a child to watch a sexual act, arranging to facilitate communication for sexual purposes, and grooming the girl with the intent to meet her for sexual activity.

William Bennett, Hubbard’s legal representative, requested a psychiatric assessment to determine whether his client poses a danger to the public. This evaluation will inform the court’s decision during sentencing, which has yet to be scheduled. Judge Robert Egbuna ordered Hubbard to remain in custody at least until the sentencing hearing, emphasizing the seriousness of the charges and the need for further assessment before a final judgment is made.
