ADAM GILL FROM LEIGH CAUGHT IN PREDATORY PLOT BY PAEDOPHILE HUNTERS IN BOLTON
In a disturbing case that unfolded in Bolton, a man named Adam Gill, aged 42, from Leigh, found himself at the center of a sting operation conducted by vigilant paedophile hunters. The incident, which took place in April 2017, involved Gill attempting to arrange a sexual encounter with a 14-year-old boy he believed he was communicating with through the popular gay dating app Grindr.
According to the prosecution, represented by Katie Jones, the operation was initiated when Mark Jones created a profile under the alias “Jason” on Grindr on April 5, 2017.
On the very same day, Gill contacted the profile, sending an indecent photograph of his private parts and making explicit sexual remarks.
The situation escalated quickly, with Gill arranging to meet the supposed underage boy at his home the following day, promising a sexual encounter.
When Mark Jones arrived at Gill’s residence, he was met with a startling revelation.
Gill, upon opening the door, removed his baseball cap and made a chilling statement: “You know I’m not 14 now, don’t you?” This admission confirmed the suspicions of the paedophile hunters, prompting immediate police involvement.
Officers were called to the scene, and Gill was subsequently arrested and charged with attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity.
During the court proceedings at Bolton Crown Court, Gill pleaded guilty to the charges.
It was revealed that since his arrest, efforts have been made by his family and church to prevent any future offending.
These measures include the installation of monitoring software on his phone, which alerts family members if he attempts to access inappropriate content.
His support network was described as “extraordinary” by the prosecution, emphasizing their commitment to safeguarding others from potential harm.
Judge Graeme Smith, presiding over the case, acknowledged Gill’s vulnerabilities, describing him as “lonely, vulnerable, and suffering from learning difficulties.” The judge emphasized that Gill’s actions were driven by “sexualised fantasy,” and clarified that there was no real child involved in the incident.
“This was nothing more than a fantasy on your part,” Judge Smith stated.
“Despite the sexual nature of the conversation, I am satisfied that you would never have carried out any act in real life because no child was actually involved.” As part of his sentencing, Gill was handed a three-year community order.
He is required to participate in a sexual offenders’ treatment program and undertake 30 days of rehabilitation activities.
Additionally, he was placed on the sex offenders’ register and subjected to a sexual harm prevention order for five years.
This order explicitly bans him from having unsupervised contact with children, aiming to prevent any future harm and protect the community from potential reoffending.
