GLASGOW MAN JAILED FOR ONLINE CHILD SEX ATTEMPT AFTER UNDERCOVER POLICE STING

Abdulkarim Abdulrahman, 21, contacted a woman claiming to be in charge of an escort site and arranged to pay £70 for 30 minutes of sex with a 14-year-old girl.

He then offered to pay in exchange for half an hour of sex and was given details of where to meet her in Motherwell, Lanarkshire, Scotland in May last year.

Officers were waiting for him but he did not show up.

He was later found in Glasgow and arrested.

Abdulrahman admitted attempting to obtain the sexual services of a child under 18.

He was sentenced to 10 months in jail and placed on the sex offenders' register for 10 years.

The court expressed that such offenses are met with strong condemnation and involved some planning to exploit a young and vulnerable child.

The case was part of Operation Overview, launched in 2022 to combat 'high-harm' threats to children in Scotland.
