MANCHESTER MAN JAILED FOR ONLINE CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE
A man named Abdulhamed Solten, aged 26, from Longsight, was involved in a serious sexual offense after attempting to engage in online sexual communications with a girl he believed to be 13 years old.He initiated contact via Facebook Messenger, where he was told she was 13, which he acknowledged and accepted, commenting that she was 'too young' and suggesting that her family checking his messages wouldn't be good.
Despite knowing her age, Solten turned the conversation explicitly sexual, asking her questions about her relationships and virginity, and encouraging her to perform a sex act on herself while requesting a video.
He later attended Manchester Victoria station, where he was confronted and arrested by members of a vigilante group who had been acting as decoys for child protection.
In police interviews, Solten admitted to the conversation and pleaded guilty to attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity.
During sentencing at Manchester Crown Court, Judge Tom Gilbart emphasized the seriousness of online behavior, stating, 'What you did was very serious.
It’s this type of behaviour online that causes so much concern for parents of young teenagers when they use the internet.' Solten was sentenced to 28 months in prison, and as he was led away, he asked through his interpreter, 'Am I going to prison now?', to which the judge replied, 'Yes'.
He then collapsed into tears, visibly distressed.
