ABDUL RASHID OF OLDHAM JAILED FOR CHILD ABDUCTION
In May 2008, Abdul Rashid, aged 34, of Brewerton Road, Clarksfield, Oldham, was sentenced to prison and lifetime registration as a sex offender after abducting a 14-year-old girl for sexual purposes.
Rashid was identified in October near Dovestone Reservoir, Greenfield, Oldham, where he was seen driving his car with the lights off.
Following this, police investigations led to Rashid being found with the teenager.
He pleaded guilty at Manchester Street Crown Court to charges of abduction with the intent to commit a sexual offence.
Rashid is set to serve a minimum of 342 days in custody before becoming eligible for parole.
Detective Sergeant Jason Byrne commented on the case, stating: "I hope this prosecution will act as a warning to any men who think it is acceptable to take children like this.
This behaviour will not be tolerated."
