ABDAL RAHMAN FROM NEWPORT FACES SERIOUS SEXUAL ABUSE CHARGES IN CARDIFF CROWN COURT

A man named Abdul Rahman, aged 36 and originally from Newport, is currently standing trial at Cardiff Crown Court accused of multiple serious sexual offences involving three young girls. The allegations span a period from the year 2000 to 2013, with the defendant denying all charges.

According to the prosecution, the victims came forward after learning that Rahman had previously been convicted of related offences. The court was informed that Rahman had been convicted and sentenced for possessing and distributing child sex abuse images. He pleaded guilty to these charges in May 2022, and his sentencing followed shortly thereafter. Prosecutor James Wilson explained to the jury that this prior conviction provides important context for the current allegations, which only came to light after the victims learned of Rahman’s criminal history.

Wilson emphasized that the evidence suggests Rahman has a sexual interest in children and that the allegations are credible. The first charge involves an incident when Rahman was between 12 and 14 years old. It is alleged that he engaged in indecent assault by massaging a young girl’s legs and then touching her private areas, including her vagina. The victim reportedly described feeling confused and described the experience as “weird.”

The second charge pertains to an incident when Rahman was between 18 and 20 years old. It is claimed that he committed sexual assault against a girl under the age of 13 by exposing himself to her. The prosecution states that Rahman grabbed her hand and made her touch his private parts, and also touched her over her clothing inappropriately.

The third allegation involves Rahman when he was approximately 24 or 25 years old. The victim in this case claims that Rahman massaged her and asked her to pull down her trousers, which is considered an incitement or act of causing a child to engage in sexual activity.

Rahman, who was previously residing on Corporation Road in Newport and is now living on Bryn Road in Cefn Fforest, Blackwood, has pleaded not guilty to all three counts. The trial, presided over by Judge Paul Hobson, continues as the court examines the evidence and testimonies related to these serious allegations.
