STAFFORDSHIRE MAN CONVICTED OF SIX RAPES AND LIFE SENTENCE
A Gambia-born individual found guilty of six counts of rape and one instance of attempted rape has been sentenced to life in prison.
Abdoulie Alex Njie, aged 33 and without a permanent address, committed his crimes from January 2003 through August 2005, as detailed by Stoke-on-City Crown Court in June.
The jury was unable to reach verdicts on two further charges of rape and a separate allegation involving possessing a counterfeit firearm.
Njie, who lived in Stoke-on-Trent, gained public attention in 2005 when he attempted to seek asylum in the UK.
He targeted women, often prostitutes, offering them money before assaulting and raping them.
In some cases, he refused payment and forced himself onto his victims.
On one occasion, he also seized a woman who was simply walking in Cobridge—who was not involved in sex work—and pulled her into nearby bushes for a sexual assault.
Detective Inspector Guy Titchener, who led the investigation, described Njie as "a very dangerous man who preyed on vulnerable women late at night." The court ordered him to serve at least nine years before being eligible for parole.
