PECKHAM MAN AARON MCKENZIE CONVICTED OF MURDERING PREGNANT EX-GIRLFRIEND AND KILLING BABY IN LONDON

In a tragic and shocking case that unfolded in the heart of South London, Aaron McKenzie, aged 26 and residing in Peckham, has been found guilty of the brutal murder of his heavily pregnant ex-girlfriend, Kelly-Mary Fauvrelle, and the manslaughter of their infant son. The incident took place in the early hours of a Saturday morning, leaving the local community devastated and raising serious questions about domestic violence and jealousy.

According to court proceedings at the Old Bailey, McKenzie forcefully entered Ms. Fauvrelle’s bedroom during the night, without warning or apparent provocation. Once inside, he launched a vicious attack, stabbing her a total of 21 times. The attack was so ferocious that it occurred while her family was sleeping upstairs, unaware of the violence unfolding below. The severity of the assault underscored the brutality of the crime, which shocked all who heard about it.

Ms. Fauvrelle, who was seven months pregnant at the time, was rushed to the hospital after the attack. An emergency Caesarean section was performed in an attempt to save her and her unborn child, Riley. The baby was delivered prematurely, seven weeks before his due date, and was placed on a ventilator in intensive care. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Riley tragically succumbed to his injuries four days later, passing away in hospital. The loss of both mother and child sent ripples of grief through their family and the wider community.

The prosecution described the attack as ‘vicious and cowardly,’ emphasizing that it was triggered after Ms. Fauvrelle informed McKenzie she was moving on from their ‘toxic’ relationship and had begun seeing someone new. This revelation appeared to have provoked McKenzie’s violent outburst, which resulted in the deaths of both his ex-girlfriend and their unborn child. The jury, after deliberating for nearly three hours, returned a verdict of guilty on charges of murder and manslaughter, as well as possession of an offensive weapon. McKenzie will be sentenced at the same court on Friday, 17 July.

During the trial, it was revealed that police were called to the residence in Thornton Heath at approximately 3:30 a.m. on June 29, 2019, following reports of an injured pregnant woman. Emergency services, including London’s Air Ambulance, responded swiftly, but despite their efforts, Ms. Fauvrelle died at the scene. Prosecutor Duncan Penny QC described how McKenzie initially pretended to be a victim himself, ‘posing as a victim’ at the hospital where medical staff were desperately trying to save her life. Furthermore, McKenzie was accused of lying to police, concealing that he had spent over an hour prior to the attack reading his ex-girlfriend’s emails, which may have contributed to his motive.

Adding to the suspicion surrounding his actions, McKenzie reportedly took a driving lesson just hours after the assault, raising questions about his state of mind and possible attempts to evade responsibility. Throughout the investigation, he continued to deceive police, hospital staff, and Ms. Fauvrelle’s family, denying involvement until he was eventually arrested. Although he admitted responsibility for the deaths through his solicitor, claiming, ‘No one else was involved in this. There was no reason for it other than my faults,’ McKenzie later attempted to shift blame by suggesting he had confessed under pressure and that another man might have been responsible. However, extensive police inquiries found no evidence to support this claim or to identify any other suspect, reinforcing McKenzie’s guilt in this tragic case.
