OFFENDER SPARED JAIL IN SEXUAL ACTIVITY CASE WITH UNDERAGE GIRL
A man described as "selfish" and "immature" has avoided jail time after being convicted of having sexual relations with a minor.Aaron Jones was found guilty of engaging in sexual activity with a teenage girl following a trial and was sentenced at Mold Crown Court today (Monday).
The 22-year-old, from Mold Road, Buckley, Flintshire, received a sentence of 15 months in prison, suspended for 15 months.
Additionally, he is required to complete 26 sessions of building choices and 15 rehabilitation activity requirements.
He will also be monitored via GPS for four months, ordered to stay away from the victim under a five-year restraining order, and placed under a sex offender notification requirement for 10 years.
Jones, who was 20 years old at the time of the 2023 offense and has no prior convictions, must pay a statutory surcharge.
The prosecution case was presented by Patrick Gartland.
Defense attorney Simon Rogers pointed out that evidence indicated the sexual activity may have been consensual and that the victim, who cannot be named due to legal restrictions, was not coerced.
Judge Simon Mills described Jones as "selfish" and "immature," noting his apparent lack of remorse and stressing that it was time he "grew up." Ultimately, the judge chose not to send him directly to prison, opting instead for community-based measures, with a warning that any violation would lead to immediate detention.
