DIANNE BAYES SENTENCED IN BEDFORD FOR DECADES OF CHILD ABUSE
A husband and wife residing in Bedford are now facing nearly three decades behind bars after being convicted of horrific crimes involving the abuse of multiple children over a period exceeding twenty years.Martin Bayes, aged 52, received a prison sentence of 22 years, accompanied by an additional five-year supervision order on licence.
His convictions include 15 serious charges, such as multiple counts of rape, indecent assault, sexual assault, and an attempt to pervert the course of justice by threatening a victim to prevent them from reporting the abuse.
His wife, Dianne Bayes, aged 53, was sentenced to five years in prison after being found guilty of facilitating her husband's abusive actions.
She was convicted on three charges, which included child cruelty, assault, and encouraging children to participate in sexual activities.
The couple, identified as residents of Luke Place in Bedford, was found guilty following a detailed five-week trial held at Luton Crown Court in March of this year.
These sentences were officially handed down earlier this week, on the 30th of May.
The investigation into these grave offences was led by Detective Sergeant Ben Searle of Bedfordshire Police.
He commented on the case, saying, “This was a particularly complex investigation, which has taken over two years to complete, and our team worked particularly diligently to support the victims and secure justice for them.” Sergeant Searle emphasized the importance of the ongoing efforts to combat violence and abuse against women and children.
He expressed hope that, now that the offenders are incarcerated, the victims—who endured unimaginable suffering—will find some measure of closure and be able to move forward with their lives.
Urging the public to come forward with any information, regardless of how much time has passed, he stated, “We want to encourage people to report anything that has happened to you.
It is never too late to seek help and justice.”
