CARDIFF MAN SENTENCED TO THREE YEARS FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND ASSAULT
A violent bully who physically assaulted his former partner multiple times and engaged in controlling and coercive behaviour has been sentenced to three years' imprisonment.Zayyan Khan, 25, of Cardiff, was involved in a series of brutal attacks that included causing a severe wound to the woman's forehead, kneeling on her chest, and repeatedly breaking her ribs.
During court proceedings, it was revealed that he had been in a relationship with the victim for three years, during which she described him as controlling, possessive, and jealous.
She filmed him attacking her after he broke down the bathroom door she was barricaded in.
Khan admitted to suffocating her and told her that if he had killed her, he would "leave and go to Bangladesh." He also strangled her until she lost consciousness and told her he believed she had died.
On one occasion, he struck her in the car with a nitrous oxide canister, hitting her to the forehead.
He has six previous convictions, including public order offences, driving matters, and drug offences.
Khan was initially denying the offences but later pleaded guilty.
The court heard he had a history of violent and controlling behaviour, including turning up at her home, forcing his way in, and physically assaulting her repeatedly.
The sentencing judge, Daniel Williams, described Khan as feeling entitled to control women and being an ongoing danger to his victim, emphasizing his lack of remorse.
Khan was sentenced to three years in prison and was made subject to an indefinite restraining order.
