OFFENDER JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT IN CARDIFF CASTLE
A man took a young transgender man to a secluded part of Cardiff Castle and raped them after "clearly checking to see if they anatomically had a vagina".After the incident, the victim managed to run away but left their phone behind in a panic.
Yusuf Nur, 48, had been separated from friends on a night out when the incident occurred.
The court heard how Nur deliberately sat next to the victim on Queen Street, asked about their gender, and checked if they had a vagina, indicating planning.
Nur then gave the victim more to drink, sexually touched them, and later took them to a secluded garden where he effectively raped them orally and touched their genital area without consent.
Nur was arrested shortly after and, during police interview, claimed the victim walked off at the castle.
Nur had two previous convictions from 2019.
Initially pleading not guilty, he later changed his plea to guilty after forensic evidence.
Judge Paul Hobson sentenced Nur to 10 years in prison and issued an indefinite restraining order, citing the high risk he poses to the public.
---‐------------------------------------------------------------------------- A man has been sentenced to 10 years, with an extension period of six years, after he was convicted of a rape and an attempt to rape.
Yusuf Nur, aged 47, of Cardiff, pleaded guilty to the two offences on September 15, 2025 and was today (January 23) sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court.
The court heard how, on August 17, at around 5.20am, the 19-year-old victim flagged down officers on patrol and reported the rape that had just occurred on Kingsway, in the city centre.
Nur was swiftly located, arrested and charged.
Despite initially denying any contact, the extensive work carried out by officers including forensic and CCTV review, Nur then changed his plea to guilty.
