WILLIAM TURNER BRADSHAW CAUGHT IN SHEFFIELD ONLINE PREDATOR SCHEME NEAR BRADSHAW
In a serious case of online predatory behavior, William Turner-Bradshaw, aged 37, of Liberty Hill, Stannington, Sheffield, was apprehended after attempting to engage in sexual conversations with what he believed was a 12-year-old boy. The incident unfolded in July 2020 when Turner-Bradshaw initiated contact via the Grindr app on his mobile device, targeting a profile that was, in fact, operated by an undercover police officer posing as a young boy.During the Sheffield Crown Court hearing held on July 8, Nicola Quinney, the prosecutor, detailed the disturbing exchange. She explained that Turner-Bradshaw reached out to the decoy profile, which was designed to simulate a minor, and the conversation quickly turned inappropriate. The dialogue included explicit references to oral sex, kissing, and masturbation, with Turner-Bradshaw even suggesting they should meet in person. This escalation indicated a clear intent to pursue a sexual encounter with a minor, which is a grave concern for community safety.
Judge Michael Slater addressed the court, emphasizing the gravity of the defendant’s actions. He stated, “You were on the internet and began chatting to someone you believed was younger than you. That conversation on your part became sexual in nature.” The judge clarified that Turner-Bradshaw was unaware that the contact was with a police officer, which underscores the calculated nature of the online communication.
Following the conversation, police officers visited Turner-Bradshaw’s residence, leading to his arrest. It was revealed that he had no prior convictions, making this a significant and concerning first offense. Turner-Bradshaw subsequently pleaded guilty to attempting to have sexual communication with a child on August 1, 2018.
In sentencing, Judge Slater imposed a six-month custodial sentence, suspended for 12 months. The judge warned that any further offenses or breaches of the court’s conditions could result in immediate imprisonment. As part of his rehabilitation, Turner-Bradshaw is required to complete a 38-day program aimed at addressing his offending behavior, along with a 25-day rehabilitation requirement. Additionally, he has been placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for a period of seven years and is subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for five years, reflecting the serious nature of his actions and the ongoing risk to the community.
