WILLIAM STEWART OF ARDRISHAIG ADDED TO SEX OFFENDERS REGISTER FOR PREDATORY BEHAVIOR INVOLVING TEENS IN ARGYLL

In July 2017, William Stewart, a 28-year-old man from Seaside Park, Ardrishaig, was sentenced in connection with soliciting explicit images from underage girls and was subsequently placed on the Sex Offenders Register.

Stewart appeared before Oban Sheriff Court where he pleaded guilty to asking one teenage girl verbally and another via a Snapchat message to send him sexually explicit images. The offences occurred during 2015 and 2016 in Tarbert and other locations, involving girls both aged 13 but under 16.

Sheriff Patrick Hughes remarked on the severity of the case, stating, “These are extremely serious and concerning charges which involve the exploitation of young children.” He also emphasized that such predatory actions would evoke “disgust” from the public.

As part of his sentencing, Stewart was placed on a two-year supervision order. During this period, all of his mobile devices are to be available for monitoring by police and social workers. Additionally, he is prohibited from approaching or contacting anyone under the age of 18 and is required to complete 100 hours of community service.

Furthermore, Stewart was ordered to be included on the Sex Offenders Register for the duration of the supervision order.
