MAN THREATENED TO CUT OFF EX'S EARS AFTER POLICE LET HIM OUT FOR EARLIER ATTACK
A man threatened to remove his former partner’s ears just minutes after being released from custody following his arrest for a prolonged and repeated assault against her.
William Simpson assaulted the woman by kicking and punching her persistently, despite her pleas for him to stop.
When law enforcement arrived to arrest him, he spat in an officer’s face and later soiled himself in the police station cells.
Despite his shocking conduct, Simpson was released under investigation.
Within moments, he was outside his ex-partner’s residence with a knife, making threats.
The court was told that his violence began during a visit to a friend's house and persisted until they reached a Metro train, where the victim managed to seek help.
The 48-year-old, who has an extensive criminal history including violence-related offenses, admitted to assault, assaulting a police officer, criminal damage, witness intimidation, and possessing a bladed article.
He resides on St Cuthberts Drive, Heworth, Gateshead.
His behavior included spitting on an arresting officer and urinating and defecating in his cell, prompting the officer to undergo tests to rule out infectious disease transfer from the saliva.
Judge Clemitson sentenced Simpson to three years in prison, noting he was on a suspended sentence at the time, and imposed a five-year restraining order to prevent contact with the victim.
