WILLIAM MCMAHON FROM DRONGAN INVOLVED IN SHOCKING SEXUAL ASSAULT ON BUS IN AYRSHIRE

William McMahon, a 40-year-old man residing in Drongan, has been at the center of a disturbing sexual assault incident that took place on a bus traveling through Ayrshire. The incident occurred on September 22, 2024, during a journey from Ayr town center to Drongan. The young female victim, a teenager, was subjected to an unwarranted and invasive attack by McMahon, who had a prior history of sexual offenses and was registered on the sex offenders register for a different incident involving a complainant on a vehicle from Burns Statue Square in Ayr to his home village.

According to reports, during the bus ride, McMahon recognized the girl, who appeared visibly distressed and uncomfortable. Despite her pleas to be left alone, McMahon used his right arm to pull her closer to him. Witnesses noted that he seemed to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, as he was slurring his words and acting erratically. The offender then proceeded to play with her hair, stroke her shoulder, and make unwanted advances by attempting to move his hand toward her front. The situation escalated when McMahon kissed her on the face, touching her with his tongue, and refusing to cease his actions despite her repeated requests for him to stop.

Immediately after the incident, the girl confided in her mother, who observed her to be extremely distressed and shaken. The mother’s concern prompted her to report the matter to the police. Law enforcement officials reviewed bus surveillance footage and, five days later, successfully traced and arrested McMahon. During questioning, he did not respond when cautioned and was formally charged with the offenses.

It was revealed that McMahon had previously pleaded guilty to similar conduct, which included placing his arms around the girl, touching her, and playing with her hair during the same journey. He also admitted to touching her body and kissing her on the face with his tongue. His prior convictions and recent behavior prompted the court to take the case very seriously.

At Ayr Sheriff Court, Sheriff Maria Kicinski heard the case, which was categorized under 'Sexual Abuser' and 'Crime.' McMahon’s sentencing was deferred, and he remains detained at Ayrshire’s mental health facility. The court was informed that he might be transferred to Woodland View Hospital in Irvine for detoxification and further treatment. Bail conditions have been imposed, explicitly prohibiting him from approaching or contacting the victim. The court scheduled his return for sentencing next month, ensuring that justice is pursued while addressing his mental health needs.
