RYAN BROWN SENTENCED IN DRONGAN FOR ABUSE OF CHILDREN IN EAST AYRSHIRE

A 35-year-old man named Ryan Brown has been handed a seven-year prison sentence after being found guilty of heinous crimes involving two young victims in East Ayrshire. The offences include the sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl, who was under his care, and the abuse of a young boy, both of which took place in the town of Drongan.

Brown's assault on the girl occurred at a property in Drongan between November 2019 and March 2020. The court heard that during this period, Brown exploited his position of trust to commit these acts against a child he was responsible for. The girl, who was only ten years old at the time, was subjected to sexual acts that caused her significant psychological trauma, a harm that persists to this day. The court emphasized the severity of the emotional and mental scars inflicted upon her, highlighting the lasting impact of Brown’s actions.

In addition to the assault on the girl, Brown was also convicted of abusing a young boy at an unused railway station in Drongan. This abuse took place over a span of two years, from April 2011 to 2013, when the boy was between four and six years old. The court was told that Brown targeted the boy during this period, again exploiting a position of trust and vulnerability. The details of these incidents revealed a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior directed at children in his care or vicinity.

During the sentencing hearing at the High Court in Glasgow, Judge Lord Colbeck underscored the gravity of Brown’s crimes. He pointed out that each offence was committed against children whom Brown was supposed to protect and care for, which made his betrayal particularly egregious. The judge also noted that Brown’s actions involved coercing his victims into participating in sexual activities, further aggravating the severity of his crimes. Despite being convicted by a jury, Brown maintained his innocence and did not accept responsibility for his actions.

It was also revealed during the proceedings that Brown had a prior criminal record, with three similar convictions dating back to 2007 and 2008. However, he had not served jail time for those previous offences, nor had he appeared before the High Court for them. The judge remarked that the current sentence was necessary not only to punish Brown but also to serve as a deterrent and to express public disapproval of such egregious violations of trust and innocence.

In his sentencing remarks, Judge Lord Colbeck made it clear that the only appropriate punishment for Brown’s crimes was a lengthy custodial sentence, given the nature of the offences and their impact on the victims. The court’s decision reflects the seriousness with which such crimes are viewed, especially when committed against vulnerable children in a position of trust.
