WILLIAM MCINDEWAR SHOCKS ALEXANDRIA, CARDROSS, AND DUMBARTON WITH 25-YEAR CHILD SEX ABUSE SCANDAL

In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the communities of Alexandria, Cardross, and Dumbarton, an 80-year-old man named William McIndewar has been sentenced to prison for a prolonged history of child sexual abuse spanning over a quarter of a century.

William McIndewar, whose residence was on James Street in Alexandria, was convicted at the High Court in Dumbarton of multiple heinous crimes, including lewd and libidinous practices, sexual assault, and attempted rape. These offenses were committed against two young girls, with the abuse beginning before they even started primary school, and continuing over a period from 1967 to 1992. The victims' suffering took place at various addresses and locations within Dumbarton and Cardross, highlighting the widespread nature of the abuse.

Today, the court sentenced McIndewar to six years of imprisonment at the High Court in Edinburgh, marking a significant step in delivering justice for the victims. The case has brought to light the long-lasting impact of his actions and the importance of holding offenders accountable, regardless of how much time has passed.

John Service, the District Procurator Fiscal for Dumbarton, issued a statement emphasizing the gravity of the case. He stated, “For a quarter of a century, William McIndewar subjected his victims to a catalogue of sustained sexual violence. He may well have thought that he had escaped justice, but he was wrong and is now paying the consequences for his actions.”

Service also praised the bravery of the victims, noting, “Thanks to the incredible bravery of his victims in coming forward to report what happened to them, it has been possible for us to bring him to face the full force of the law for his despicable crimes.”

He further urged other victims of sexual crimes, even those from many years ago, to come forward. “They will be treated with the utmost professionalism and sensitivity by the police and our expert prosecutors around the country and in our National Sexual Crimes Unit, and we will do all we can to deliver justice,” he added.
