WILLIAM MCGILL'S HORRIFIC ABUSE IN ADDIEWELL: ICE CREAM VAN PERVERT STRIKES AGAIN
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Addiewell, West Lothian, William McGill, a 57-year-old man with a troubling history, has admitted to sexually abusing two young boys while working as an ice cream van driver. The details of the case emerged during a hearing at Glasgow High Court, revealing a pattern of predatory behavior that spanned over a year, from August 2001 to December 2002.Prosecutor David Taylor outlined the horrifying circumstances surrounding the abuse. The first victim, a 14-year-old boy, was reportedly given three very strong vodkas along with Irn Bru, a popular Scottish soft drink. After consuming the alcohol, the boy was subjected to sexual assault by McGill. Witnesses described the boy as being frozen with fear during the ordeal, indicating the trauma he endured.
The second victim, estimated to be around 12 or 14 years old, was also given three or four triple vodkas before being sexually abused by McGill. The court heard that at one point, the young boy desperately pleaded with McGill, saying, “please don’t,” but his pleas were ignored as McGill continued with the assault. The court was told that both victims have reported long-lasting psychological effects resulting from these traumatic events, which continue to affect them to this day.
William McGill’s criminal history includes a previous conviction for similar offenses. In November 2013, he was sentenced to seven years in prison for sexually abusing young boys. Despite his health issues, including arthritis and high blood pressure, which cause him to walk with a stick, McGill was released early on licence in July 2018, after serving just over half of his sentence.
Currently in custody, McGill’s sentencing has been deferred by Judge Lady Stacey, who has ordered further reports. The judge has scheduled the final sentencing for next month, bringing some hope for justice and closure for the victims and their families.
