WILLIAM KELLY FROM SKYE DIES IN JAIL AFTER ILLNESS IN ABERDEEN ROYAL INFIRMARY

In a tragic development, William Kelly, a well-known sex offender from Portree on the Isle of Skye, has passed away after falling ill while in custody at a north-east jail. The 74-year-old was initially detained at Peterhead Prison but was subsequently transferred to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary on Thursday due to health concerns. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his illness early the following morning.

William Kelly had been serving a lengthy 10-year sentence imposed by the High Court in Inverness in July 1999. His conviction stemmed from a series of serious sexual offences committed over nearly two decades, involving two young girls. The crimes for which he was convicted included rape and indecent assault, and they spanned from the early 1960s through the late 1970s, marking a disturbing pattern of abuse over a 17-year period.

Kelly’s criminal activities, which began in the 1960s, were uncovered after a lengthy investigation, leading to his trial and subsequent sentencing. His case drew significant attention due to the nature and duration of his offending, as well as his status as a registered sex offender. Following his death, authorities from Grampian Police and Kelly’s next of kin were promptly informed.
